The only reason I am seeding this is because, I ran track in high school (but never cross country - which is not to say I do not have the utmost respect for distance runners)...AND... because...I love anything Malcolm Gladwell writes.  Call me crazy.

Whenever I take the freeway west from Toronto to my parents’ house, I pass a park where I ran a cross-country race many years ago. It was the county championships.
